I'm still dubious about the idea of AI. Its a hot button issue these days... but we still don't have AI. We have algorithms that can barely string a line of thought together.

But, for sake of discussion... if there were fully sentient droids about, they'd have to somehow integrate into society.

Firstly, they'd need to maintain themselves. We, human beings, have to work to ensure we have homes, food, et cetera. Droids, however, wouldn't have need for that. Get them an outlet and they're good. Perhaps a nice oil bath on occasion.

So from this I see a conundrum. If droids can work, likely it will be that employers will want to hire them. There's less health and safety concerns when someone can't be burned, permanently broken, or even worry about slipping and hurting themselves. Droids can be repaired and, even within the laws of SW or even modern day... be revived after 'dying'. (literal techno necromancy) As such, they're ideal for working. They can modify themselves or be modified to go beyond what a human can do (I serve in restaurants a lot... and Kenobi above I wish i had two more arms). I already sorta work alongside "droids". Our coffee machines, once set up, can self clean on command.

So I'm all for working alongside droids. Work, as I see it in such a world, should become a supplementary to life where someone whom still does work is paid to afford a much better quality of life, where work becomes optional and those that don't work are still afforded comfort and stability. Basically, it frees up the common person to pursue their interests, like science, art, homemaking, et cetera. Droids, on the other hand, don't strive for such. They want to fulfil their programming. Through such, we can see a proper socialist regime come forth where people are safe and secure, and our needs are met.

Droids from SW were routinely 'wiped' to ensure they didn't go haywire. R2 was a prime example of what can happen if this doesn't happen often enough. They become snarky, they get their own ideas. which on one hand sounds great, but if my watch decided it didn't want to be a watch and instead wanted to be a sassy lighter, I'm gonna get a burned wrist.
